Summer Visits to the Museum of Contemporary Art

Last week I decided to pay a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Although I much prefer the Art Institute of Chicago, MCA had an exhibit on Daniel Clowes that I’ve been wanting to see. What I love about this museum is how modern the pieces are. Some range anywhere from the 1950’s to as recent as 2013! It’s great to learn about up and coming artists and see what the future of art holds. Here are some of my favorite museum pieces:

I love how open the museum pieces are. Some exhibits allow you to touch the art, while some let you literally walk through the art. I really loved the ‘cups on the wall’ piece. It’s crazy to think about how simple yet complex art can be. It just goes to show you that anything and everything can be considered art if you change your viewpoint on it.

No trip to an art museum is complete without a trip to the gift shop. I really loved all the books at the gift store but none caught my eye quite like the book about “Cult Movie Art.” The book depicts iconic movie moments through pop art. I also loved the pop-out dog shaped cards. I really love getting/giving cards and these pooches would make the perfect present. image
