12 Months of Happiness: October 2015

12 Months of Happiness October
Happy Friday! I don’t know about you but I’m so EXCITED that the weekend is FINALLY here (it’s been a really LONG week!) I can’t believe that not only is tomorrow the last day of October but that this is the TENTH (say what?!) installment of my 12 Months of Happiness series! 2015 is flying by and even though it still has two months left, it’s safe to say that this was one of the BEST years of my life (but I can’t wait to make 2016 even BETTER!) A lot of what made this year so amazing was, in my opinion, my positive attitude and ability to find joy in even the littlest things. Sure, this year hasn’t been perfect but I’ve definitely been the HAPPIEST I’ve ever been in my life. Happiness is choice and this year has truly proved that to me. Just going back and looking through my 12 Months of Happiness series constantly reminds me of how important (and easy) it is to find happiness in the simplest of things. Life isn’t always going to be what you wished for (sometimes it’s BETTER) so why not focus on the positive things going on in your life? Here are some of the things that made me happy in October: (Don’t forget to comment down below how your October went and what things made you smile this month! I LOVE hearing from you all about what makes you happy!)12 Months of Happiness Project
October was a GREAT month travel wise! I got to visit New York City, Philadelphia and California all in a span of two weeks! And although each individual trip made me happy in its own right (as you’ll see below), I wanted to include traveling in this list because regardless of the destination, traveling in itself will always make me happy.12 Months of Happiness NYC
Oh New York City, I definitely have a love/hate relationship with you. This was my twelfth (I think) time visiting NYC and every visit makes me more and more thankful that I live and grew up in Chicago. No offense to NYC or anything but Chicago is definitely cleaner, architecturally prettier and JUST as (if not more so) culturally amazing as New York. I know Chicago is sometimes portrayed as ‘dangerous’ in the news (what big city isn’t?) but I’ll take my Chicago over NYC ANY DAY (again, no offense to NYC. It’s a fun city to visit for a few days but….) Alas, during this trip I did get to cross seeing Aladdin off my Broadway bucket list so at least some good came out of the trip. (I will say that I LOVE Brooklyn, it’s Manhattan, especially Times Square, that I have the love/hate relationship with.)12 Months of Happiness NYCC
Besides seeing a few Broadway shows, another good thing that came from visiting NYC was attending New York Comic Con (for the second year in a row!) Although I definitely preferred NYCC 2014 over NYCC 2015 (the crowds were CRAZY this year), I still had a blast and I can’t wait for next year’s Comic Con (I also want to try to go to San Diego Comic Con next year!)
12 Months of Happiness DisneylandMy FAVORITE thing about October was definitely my trip to Disneyland. I had such a blast visiting Disneyland during Halloween time and I can’t wait to spend next Halloween at Disney World (it’s so funny that Halloween hasn’t even happened yet and I’m already making plans for next year.) Since I have monthly Disney trips planned until May 2016 (and then the trips turn bimonthly in August 2016) and since Disney is my LIFE, I know that my Disney trips will alway be the highlight of my month. In fact, whenever I’m stressed or feeling the mean reds (where my Breakfast at Tiffany’s fans at?), knowing that I have a Disney trip not to far away is what keeps me going (I can’t wait to be back at my second home Disney World in TWO WEEKS!)12 Months of Happiness WordPress
I talked about this briefly in last month’s 12 Months of Happiness post and in my NYCC 2015 post but I moved to WordPress this month and I LOVE it! Seriously, why did it take me two years of blogging before I switched over to WordPress? I’ll tell you why, I was afraid I was going to lose traffic, lose all my comments and most importantly, lose some of my posts. Boy, I couldn’t have been more WRONG! Not only did ALL my comments and posts (pictures included) transfer over perfectly, my traffic has quadrupled! Yes, you read correctly! In the three weeks I’ve been on WordPress, my traffic is FOUR TIMES what it was on Blogger (and mind you, Blogger often boosts your traffic since it counts spam/bots!) I think a lot of it has to do with the AWESOME plugins here on WordPress. My favorite is definitely Shareaholic (which lets people easily share your content across different social media platforms.) My post ‘Helping Dogs In Need + Loki’s Adoption Story was shared over 1,700+ times on Facebook alone! A few of my other posts have been shared over 1k+ times as well and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it’s easier to share thanks to Shareaholic! I plan on doing a few Blogger to WordPress posts soon so I’ll go more into detail then!

Here’s a few other things that made me happy in October:

  • I got tickets to see Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens at the IMAX OPENING NIGHT (they sold out super fast so I’m glad I was able to get them!)
  • I got to see a sneak peek of Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur while I was at Disneyland (and it made me even more excited to see the film next month!)
  • I FINALLY got to try Sprinkles Ice Cream (we only have Sprinkles cupcakes here in Chicago.)
  • I got to see my three best friends (who live in Philly, DC and NYC) this month!
  • Although this hasn’t happened yet, I’m excited for my Halloween bash tomorrow and for the Halloween fireworks at Navy Pier!

I can’t believe Sunday is November?! What made you happy in October?
