As some of you may already know, for the past year and a half I’ve been on a mission to live a healthier lifestyle. I decreased my fast food intake, I starting doing yoga and I even joined a gym. I also go on daily jogs (and sometimes bike rides) with my dog Loki. Speaking of Loki, I’ve also been on a mission this past year to make sure he’s living a healthy lifestyle as well! I’m not going to lie, when I first adopted Loki from PAWS Chicago (aka Chicago’s largest No Kill humane and adoption organization) last May, I was a little nervous. I’d never had a dog before and I wanted to make sure I did everything in my power to give him the best life possible and that meant making sure he was happy, healthy and well loved!
Since Loki is a mixed breed (Dachshund and we assume either Lab or Golden Retriever,) he’s built a little different than most dogs. He has the face of a Lab, the LONG body of a Dachshund and a fluffy Golden Retriever like tail. It’s kind of funny because he has the appetite of a Dachshund (they’re known to eat, eat, eat) and the energy level of a Retriever (he could run for miles!). With this in mind, I’ve learn how to balance his exercise regiment and his eating habits.
I love taking Loki on long walks and jogs. Our favorite jogging trail is right next to this adorable pond (there are actually four ponds throughout the trail) and Loki loves watching the sun set over the water.
He also likes watching the ducks (but can you blame him? They’re so cute!).
Best thing to do after a long jog? Stopping to smell the flowers, of course!
