Greetings! Sorry again for the radio silence here on the blog this past week. If you follow me on Snapchat (simplysinova) or Instagram (shameless plug) then you may already know that I decided to take an impromptu road trip to St. Louis on Sunday. As many of you know, I LOVE traveling and even though I’m heading to Disney World this Sunday (woot woot), I thought it would be fun to go on a little mini trip before my two week Florida vacation. I was laying in bed last Friday and a random thought popped into my head, “I really want to go to St. Louis, like ASAP.” Since St. Louis is only about a four hour drive from Chicago, I thought “why not just go NOW?” So I packed up the car, booked a hotel (since I booked the hotel literally a day before my arrival, I got an AWESOME last-minute deal on a great hotel in the center of downtown St. Louis) and hit the road!
Ever since my impromptu trip to New York City last January to attend a SNL live taping (when you win SNL tickets, they literally inform you the WEEK of the show, so I only had three days to plan/book that trip), I’ve been itching to take another one. Sure, I travel a lot (I have monthly Disney trips planned from August to January and I’m heading back to Paris in December, the Bahamas in October and Washington, DC next month) but those trips are usually planned months in advance. There’s just something about last minute/impromptu trips that excite me! Speaking of impromptu trips, I’m actually taking one more last minute trip this Friday (before I leave for Florida on Sunday. Gosh, I LOVE traveling) but more on that later. Since I’m such a HUGE art lover, I decided to stop by the Saint Louis Art Museum as soon as I arrived in St. Louis!
Located directly in front of the Saint Louis Art Museum is the Apotheosis of St. Louis (a statue of King Louis IX of France).
As you’ll see in many of the photos below, the Saint Louis Art Museum was practically empty when I visited (I personally couldn’t think of a better place to spend a Sunday afternoon but I guess a lot of people would disagree). I’ve talked about this on the blog before but I LOVE when art museums aren’t too crowded so I can really get up close and personal with the artwork.
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the ceiling art at the Saint Louis Art Museum?! I was having serious flashbacks of my visit to the Musée du Louvre.
Speaking of Paris, I’m so excited to be spending Christmas and New Year’s Day in Paris this year! I had such a blast celebrating my birthday in Paris back in April, so I’m super happy to be going back so soon (I didn’t think I’d be visiting Paris twice in one year but luckily things worked themselves out!).
It’s so funny because I took an almost identical photo to this one when I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York two years ago!
How gorgeous is that jacket?
I am in LOVE with this golden shoe sculpture by Andy Warhol!
Seeing Stairway at Auvers was such a pleasant surprise (I had no idea it was at the Saint Louis Art Museum) because it’s one of my favorite Van Gogh paintings (my FAVORITE painting, of course, is The Bedroom which is on display here in Chicago at The Art Institute of Chicago).
One of my favorite things about the Saint Louis Art Museum (besides the fact that it’s FREE. Yup, you heard right, this is a free museum) is the open concept contemporary art galleries.
I wasn’t kidding when I said that I basically had the entire Saint Louis Art Museum to myself! At times it felt like I was in another realm, like it was just me and the art (talk about being in my happy place!).
Have you ever visited the Saint Louis Art Museum before? Any fellow art lovers out there? Make sure to check out more art exhibit and art museums posts HERE!
