Although most people in today’s society are obsessed with constantly checking their various social media accounts, as a blogger, freelance writer and social media manager, constantly checking social media is sort of my job (actually, it’s not “sort of” my job it literally IS my job and my livelihood depends on it!). That’s why I had a mini panic attack last month when I was temporally locked out of my Twitter account. See here’s the thing, for as long as I can remember I’ve had three different passwords that I’d use for various things. I’d use one of the passwords for my email account, one for Instagram, a combination of one with numbers added on for snapchat and so on. Ultimately, not managing my various passwords is what lead to my Twitter complication. When I first joined Twitter back in ’09, I originally signed up using an old email account. I can be super lazy when it comes to signing in to various accounts, so I always click “save/remeber password” so I’m always signed in my accounts and I don’t have to keep typing the password each time. The problem arose when I was out and about and wanted to use Twitter from my iPad. Since I wasn’t automatically signed into the Twitter app on the iPad, I was forced to sign in. I tried all three of my usual passwords and none of them seemed to work. After numerous failed attempts, Twitter said I had to change/get a new password and that the link to create a new password was being sent to my email, the email I haven’t used/check in almost four years!
So now into order to unlock my Twitter account and create a new password (since I forget my old one), I had to somehow log into an email address that I not only haven’t used in years but had also forget the password to (whoops!). I literally felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Thankfully, I was able to get into the email account by answering a few security questions, get the link I needed to set up my new Twitter password and I was able to log back into Twitter. I don’t know about you, but I NEVER want to have to go through something like that again! Luckily, I have LastPass now.
