Happy Monday and happy April! My birthday month has officially begun and I couldn’t be happier. To celebrate my birthday I’m going to Disneyland next week. So in honor of that trip, I wanted to do a little simple Disney DIY. Now listen, I am no seamstress but I’ve been seeing this cute DIY all over my Instagram. People have been taking the Disney Pixar Turning Red plush blanket bag and turning it into a plush crossbody bag.
When I first saw this plush bag I was curious why Disney didn’t make it into a crossbody because they’ve done it before with Duffy, Winnie the Pooh, etc. I held off from buying the bag because I didn’t want to have to carry it around. Then I saw so many people turning them into crossbody bags and I was like “hey, that’s so smart!”
So the question is, was making this crossbody really as easy as everyone made it seem?
To start off, you’ll need the Turning Red Blanket and Plush Bag (available at Shop Disney or the Disney Parks). This bag retails for $39.99. It’s super adorable and it’s the perfect size for a plush crossbody. (It reminds me for the ShellieMay and Duffy plush crossbody bags!).
If you end up ordering the bag online at Shop Disney, be sure to sign up for Rakuten. No this isn’t sponsored, but I recently starting using Rakuten and in just a week I’ve already earned $35! I don’t know about y’all but why not get “free” money back if you’re already ordering online?!
When I tell you this DIY is SO easy….it’s so EASY. I am not a DIYer. I have the attention span of a goldfish and I get distracted easily (hence why my blog posts are always so spractic). But If I can do this, I promise you YOU can do this!
First, just take out the blanket from the bag. (I ended up giving the blanket to my dog Loki. He loves it!).
To create this DIY crossbody all you need is: the Turning Red plush bag, a crossbody strap and solid brass ball studs with D rings. I got both the strap and studs from Amazon for under $20. (Y’all Amazon gets you cash back on Rakuten too!).
You can choose any color strap you want but I went with a creme strap so that it could match the cheeks/fur coloring of the bag.
All you need to do to create the crossbody is simply attach the strap to the bag. You’ll do this by snapping the brass studs to the bag. (I choose to attach the studs behind the ears so it wouldn’t be visible from the front). Once the studs are secure, snap on the strap!
Boom! And just like that you’re done. You don’t need any tools and there’s no sewing involved. The brass studs simply twist in.
Now you have an adorable DIY Turning Red Crossbody Bag! I can’t want to wear this with my Turning Red ears while I’m at Disneyland next weekend.
