Lollapalooza 2016 (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ellie Goulding, J. Cole + MORE)

Lollapalooza 2016
Happy Wednesday! I can’t believe it’s August already (seriously, where is the time going?!). I’m super excited because in less than two weeks I’ll be back at my second home, Disney World! BUT, that’s not all! I’ll also be visiting Universal Studios while I’m in Florida (I’ve decided to become an annual passholder there since I’m a Disney annual passholder and visit the area so often) which means I get to FINALLY explore Springfield, U.S.A and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter again! Enough about this month though, let’s talk about July! Last weekend was Lollapalooza and although it was AMAZING, my feet are killing me right now (but trust me, it was worth the pain!). Even though Lolla was four days this year (in celebration of their 25th anniversary), it seems like it went by super fast (you know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun!). Similar to last year’s Lollapalooza recap,  I’ve decided to combine all four days into one post (so be prepared for a little bit of a photo overload).  Continue reading

The Roots and Donnie Trumpet Taste of Chicago Performance

The Roots and Donnie Trumpet Taste of Chicago Performance
Ah, the first concert (review) of the summer. If you ask me, summer was made for concerts! This year the Illinois Lottery invited me to cover The Roots Taste of Chicago Performance (this was actually my third year working with them since I partnered with them last summer for Erykah Badu’s Taste of Chicago performance and in 2014 for the Anything’s Possible® Music Series + Janelle Monáe Concert) and of course I jumped at the opportunity. It’s funny because I never used to be a “concert person” (when it comes to live music I’ve always been more of a Broadway person. Speaking of Broadway, I STILL can’t believe I’m seeing Hamilton in October! Words can’t describe how excited I am) but for the past three years or so, I’ve learned to really LOVE concerts! Even if it’s an artist I don’t really like (or am that familiar with), there’s just something about the energy and vibe of concerts that I really love!  Continue reading

Lollapalooza 2015 (Paul Mccartney, Sam Smith, Florence + The Machine)

Lollapalooza 2015
Happy Monday! Okay, here’s the thing. I planned on posting my Lollapalooza recap the Monday after the music festival (which was held July 31-August 2) but for the LIFE of me, I couldn’t find my camera (since most musical festivals don’t allow professional/DSLR cameras, I had to bring my point and shoot.) Thankfully while I was packing for Disney World (I’m there right now so make sure to follow me on snapchat at simplysinova for lots of Disney World fun) I found it! Although I’ve lived in Chicago basically my whole life, this was my first time getting three day passes for Lolla. Even though I’d been to dozens of Lollapalooza after shows before and had even gotten a single day Lolla pass in the past, I never wanted to commit to getting three day passes. Since I had such an AMAZING time covering the iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party last summer, I knew this year I wanted to finally give Lollapalooza a try! Since I didn’t get many (good) photos (since you can’t bring DSLR/professional cameras into the festival), I’ve decided to combine all three days into one post.

Erykah Badu 2015 Taste of Chicago Performance

*Special thanks to the Illinois Lottery for inviting me to partake in their #MyWinningStory Series*

Young the Giant + The So So Glos (feat. GROUPLOVE)

August 4, 2014

Exactly one year after seeing Lana Del Rey in concert, I found myself back at the House of Blues to see another one of my favorite artists: Young the Giant! I love when Lollapalooza’s in town because there are so many amazing bands to see! Not just at the festival itself, but there are dozens of great after shows. Saturday, I had the wonder opportunity to see the Young the Giant and So So Glos Lollapalooza after show (featuring a very special surprise guest!) Sorry in advance for the photo overload! I took about 200 pictures throughout the 3 1/2 hour (yes, it was that long) concert, so narrowing it down was pretty difficult.

The So So Glos are a punk rock band that formed in 2007 in Brooklyn, New York. I didn’t know much about this band prior to Saturday, but I enjoyed seeing them perform. They had a very old school punk sound to them that you don’t hear much today. They started off with their song Wrecking Ball and I was surprised at how much I liked it. Sure, I like bands like the Ramones, The Clash and the Sex Pistols, but I wouldn’t call myself a huge punk rock fan (although I did take a History of Punk Rock course in college.) I’m glad to see that bands like the So So Glos are keeping punk rock alive!  Continue reading
