With Juneteenth (finally) becoming a federal holiday, it seems like we are slowly moving in the right direction as a country. Social injustices are beginning to become apart of everyday conversations. No longer are we allowing people to act like everything is just fine and dandy. We’re starting to listen to each other more. People are more open to start a dialogue with those who might have different opinions or views.

In this political climate it’s so important to remain educated and open to starting these dialogues. We can’t always assume that everyone is aware of certain issues. Sometimes we have to be willing to enlighten people and we need to be patience with them whist teaching them.

Although summer isn’t technically over until late September, with back to school underway (thank goodness that part of my life is over) and fall clothing starting to hit stores (oddly enough, I’ve seen some stores already gearing up for Halloween), it seems like my “carefree summer days” are coming to an end. Since I graduated college over a year ago (shoutout to the class of 2014), summers aren’t exactly like they were when I was a kid. When I was in school, summer was basically a two and a half month ‘responsibility break.’ I didn’t have to worry about things like homework, studying or tests. Even when I had a summer job and internships, there was still a careful feeling to summer. Since I’m no longer in school and am working full time, summers are more or less like every other season but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy all the fun things associated with it! For me, summer is all about BBQ’s, hanging out with friends, music festivals, traveling (I’m so excited to be heading to DC THIS WEEK and Disney World next week) and of course, spending countless hours at the beach!

5 Things Being A Dog Owner Has Taught Me

After spending two years as a dog foster parent for PAWS Chicago, I decided it was finally time to do something that I’d been wanting to do since I was a little girl: adopt a dog of my own! So last month, I made the BEST decision of my life; I adopted my little long hair Dachshund mix puppy Loki. Loki has quickly become the love of my (and my family’s) life! He’s silly, intelligent, eager to please, kind, loving and the world’s BEST cuddler. In a nutshell, Loki’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Loki has taught me so much about myself. For instance, thanks to Loki, I now know that I’m not the heavy sleeper I thought I was (who knew such a small dog had such a powerful bark!) They say when you adopt you’re saving the dog but honestly, it’s Loki who’s saved me. I can’t imagine my life without Loki and I’m so thankful he’s apart of my family now! Happy Monday Everyone! I still can’t believe I blogged everyday (Monday-Friday) last week! I pushed myself and I actually did it. Ever since I started blogging almost two years ago (wow, I can’t believe that in 3 months Simply Sinova turns two) I’ve wanted to try daily blogging. It’s kind of been a personal goal that I’ve wanted to cross off for a while now but with school (back in 2013 & early 2014) and work (now) it seemed impossible but I managed to do it! One year ago (January 27,) Dunkin’ Donuts launched its DD Perks® Rewards program, offering guests nationwide points toward free Dunkin’ Donuts beverages for every visit they make at participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations! I am OBSESSED with DD Perks! I’m a sucker for reward’s programs and this one is no exception! I love starting my day with a Dunkin’ Donuts bagel and an Iced Coffee (or Hot Chocolate if it’s really cold out!) With DD Perks, I earn five points for every dollar I spend on qualifying purchases at Dunkin’ Donuts when I pay using my Dunkin’ Donuts Card, either plastic or via the Dunkin’ Mobile App (I mostly use the app!)
