Vinyl Collection Goals for 2014

January 21, 2014

The Beatles Vinyl Records
This April will mark ONE YEAR of collecting records! I started collecting records after I received a Crosley record player for my 21st birthday (which is in April.) I’ve always wanted to collect records so I thought what better time to start! One of my school’s local record stores is having an AWESOME ‘winter’ sale right noe! Every record from a certain ID number and down is 50% off! I found some awesome Aerosmith albums for only $3 and a few Rolling Stones classics for $5!

Thrift shops are an awesome way to build up your vinyl collection (especially if you’re on a budget!) Most thrift stores sell slightly used records for anywhere between .99 cents to two dollars, which is a STEAL if you really think about it! Even though the choices can be limited (mostly Christmas records and kid sing-a-longs) you never know what hidden gems you might find!

Vinyl Hunting at Urban Outfitters

October 10, 2013

Urban Outfitters Vinyl RecordsI haven’t been Vinyl Hunting in a while so I decided to hit up Urban Outfitters and see what they had in stock. I personally don’t buy my Vinyl records form Urban (they’re so much money) but I looked around anyway. I like to buy my records from either legit record stores, thrift shops, garage or estate sales and of course on good ole Amazon.com! I will admit that the one thing I love about Vinyl’s from Urban Outfitters is that a lot of them offer an additional MP3 download of the album. I’ve always thought that was pretty cool. If they lower the prices I might have to start buying records from here (or if someone gives me a Urban Gift Card hint hint.)

Jazz Record Mart: The World’s Largest Jazz and Blues Record Store

Jazz Record Mart
I recently visited Jazz Record Mart and was shocked by what I found! Being from Chicago, I’ve always prided myself on what a huge jazz fan am I. I’ve always thought of myself as someone who was well versed in jazz music but now I’m not so sure. After visiting Jazz Record Mart, I’ve been exposed to a whole new level of jazz and blues music. There’s so many artists beyond Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles and Kenny G! More than 75% of the artist there where people I hadn’t heard of! And it’s not like they were unpopular artists, most were blue’s and jazz legends! As I was browsing Jazz Record Mart, I took mental notes of artists I wanted to learn more about.

Amazing Vinyl Finds + Recording Shopping in Chicago

August 16, 2013

Recording Shopping in Chicago
I just love record shopping in Chicago. Vinyl hunting, as I like to call it, has become one of my favorite hobbies. I love the element of surprise attached with it. You truly never now what you’re going to find. Usually they have the lesser known albums of classic/ popular artist or they have a lot of unknown artists. I’ve been on the hunt for some Aerosmith and Rolling Stone vinyls and I was pleasely surprised by what I found. They had almost every Aerosmith album and they were all under $9 (what a steal!) I really wanted The Rolling Stones Let It Bleed album but of course they didn’t have it. They did have Aftermath for only $6 though.
